HAIR RESTORATION

FUE hair transplant

Understanding follicular unit extraction and whether a hair transplant is an appropriate option for your hair loss.

Plan a consultation

What is FUE?

Follicular unit extraction, or FUE, is a hair transplantation technique in which individual groups of hair follicles are removed from a donor area and implanted into areas affected by hair loss.

Small punches are used to extract the grafts rather than removing a strip of scalp. FUE can still leave small scars and is not a scar-free procedure.

Assessment before treatment

A consultation starts with understanding the cause and pattern of hair loss, the available donor hair and your expectations. A transplant is not appropriate for every type of hair loss.

Your doctor will discuss medical history, current medicines, other treatment options and how continuing hair loss could affect the long-term plan.

How are the grafts placed?

After the donor and recipient areas are planned, follicular units are extracted and prepared for implantation. The placement is planned around the desired coverage and hair direction.

The extent of treatment, number of grafts and whether more than one session may be needed depend on the individual assessment. Ask who will perform the procedure and about their training.

Recovery, risks and expectations

Hair growth develops over time rather than immediately. Follow the instructions for washing, protecting the grafts, activity and follow-up.

Possible problems include bleeding, infection, scarring, poor graft growth and results that do not meet expectations. Discuss these risks and the likely result before deciding. No particular density or outcome can be guaranteed.

YOUR QUESTIONS

A little more clarity.

Is FUE scar-free?

No. Removing individual grafts can leave small scars. Their visibility depends on healing, technique and the way the hair is worn.

Will a transplant stop future hair loss?

A transplant moves hair follicles; it does not necessarily prevent further loss of existing hair. Ongoing management may be discussed.

How much does treatment cost?

Cost depends on the assessment, the planned procedure and its extent. Request a personalised estimate after consultation.
