What is microdermabrasion?
Microdermabrasion uses a device to gently exfoliate the outer surface of the skin. It is used for selected concerns involving skin texture, a dull appearance and some superficial marks.
It is different from deeper dermabrasion or a surgical scar procedure. Surface exfoliation cannot be expected to remove deep scars or every form of pigmentation.
Is it right for your skin?
The dermatologist will assess the concern, your skin’s sensitivity and any active skin condition. Share your medical history, medicines, recent procedures and the products you use.
A different treatment may be more suitable when the main concern is active inflammation, deep scarring or a pigmentation disorder that needs its own care plan.
Treatment and expected changes
The skin is treated with a controlled abrasive device. Your clinician will explain the technique, treatment area and whether a course of sessions is appropriate.
Changes are usually more modest than those from deeper procedures. Discuss the expected improvement, alternatives and cost before beginning treatment.
Aftercare and possible side effects
Redness, swelling, tenderness or temporary sensitivity can occur. Skin care and sun protection after treatment should follow your dermatologist’s advice.
Tell the clinic about unexpected irritation or prolonged symptoms. The procedure does not guarantee the removal of scars, wrinkles, stretch marks or pigmentation.
YOUR QUESTIONS
A little more clarity.
Can it remove deep acne scars?
Microdermabrasion works mainly at the skin surface. Deep scars may require a different or combined approach after assessment.
Will I need more than one treatment?
A course may be discussed depending on the concern and response. Improvements and their duration vary.
Is there a fixed treatment price?
The treatment area and plan affect the cost. Ask for the current estimate at consultation.
